In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, SOLVE teamed up with Loco por la Aventura for a Southeast Portland cleanup celebrating the contributions of the Latino community in the Pacific Northwest. This nonprofit promotes educational equity and outdoor engagement, opening doors for families and young people to connect with nature across the region.

Loco por la Aventura’s mission aligns seamlessly with SOLVE’s commitment to fostering inclusive environmental action. The organization creates welcoming spaces for the Latinx community to experience the outdoors—whether through hiking, climbing, canoeing, or snowshoeing adventures.
Their programming also includes family camping trips for those new to outdoor recreation and cultural elements like post-event dance classes that bring people together through both movement and community.
In addition to hosting events, Loco recently opened the Basecamp Mountaineering Center, a retail and rental shop where every purchase directly supports free outdoor programs. This innovative model ensures that access to nature remains equitable and sustainable.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, volunteers gathered in Southeast Portland for Cleaner SE Together on September 25, the first in a growing partnership between SOLVE and Loco por la Aventura. The event brought neighbors, local businesses, and community members together to collect litter, beautify shared spaces, and strengthen connections across cultures.
SOLVE looks forward to continuing this collaboration, expanding opportunities for people to connect with both the environment and one another, creating cleaner, healthier communities for all.
