East Portland Collective: Clean & Scheme "Lights in Lents" edition! (Feb 2024)
Join us for a community clean-up! The "clean & scheme" was born out of a desire to connect to more East Portlanders by working together (Clean!) and... start some conversations to take more action in our community (Scheme!).
This is the "Lights in Lents" edition, because we'll be picking up all kinds of trash, but focusing on plastic collection. Through this clean-up, we will explore the many ways we encounter plastics in our environment and life on a daily basis, and have the opportunity to reflect on ways we can eliminate plastic from our lives.
You are invited to stick around after the clean-up to explore our "Lights in Lents" community art project! We’re traditionally one of the only East Portland projects, and we want to invite you to build glowing & illuminated magic in the heart of our neighborhood. In 2022 we made a 2D UV mural… in 2023 we painted 720 sq feet of glow-in-the-dark mural… and in 2024 we’re building a “Deep Sea Disco” sculpture garden! We will be transforming (clean) plastic trash to deep-sea inspired & illuminated sculptures to bring awareness to plastic & micro-plastic pollution and come together as a community to make awesome illuminated art in Lents.
