Early Earth Day Eco Warrior School Forest Restoration

Be an eco warrior! Start off Earth Day early with a day of action in a school’s forest near Forest Park.

You can choose to remove invasive species (ivy, blackberry, and holly) or spread wood mulch .3 miles of trail and five outdoor classroom spaces. Our goal is to promote regrowth of native plants and support native organisms in this 4-acre forest at the headwaters of a salmonid bearing creek. Maintenance of the trail and outdoor spaces will help PS-8th students take full advantage of their forest spaces and foster nature stewardship.

  • Follow signs to meet at the west forest entrance. Look for the stage and storage area on the grass near the forest.
  • Please dress for the weather, mud, and thorns. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants.
  • Bring a water bottle, shovel, and gloves if you have them. We will have tools, gloves, water, and snacks to share!
  • Children (all ages) are welcome if they are directly supervised by a family member or family friend. Youth volunteers 17 and under will have to sign a separate youth waiver form if they are attending this SOLVE event without a parent.
  • COVID-19 safety: Remember to self-screen before arrival, wearing masks is optional, and be aware of physical distancing while working near others. If you want a solo job, please ask.
  • Restroom facilities and parking are available. You may park in any parking lot or in any clearly striped parking space on campus.
  • The closest Trimet stop near the school is Southwest Barnes Road & Southwest Miller Road (West Haven-Sylvan) with public transportation using Bus 20. It is a 1 mile walk to 677 NW Miller Road, the southeast entrance to campus. Contact event coordinator, Beth Clifton, to arrange transportation from the bus stop.

Thank you for choosing to help our school's forest as your SOLVE volunteer opportunity! We can't do it without you.
