Sandy River Litter Cleanup & Habitat Restoration Event (Se habla español)
Join the fun! SOLVE and the Sandy River Watershed Council invite you to join in on a cleanup event to remove litter and restore habitat on the Sandy River near the town of Troutdale. Let's work together to protect and improve this beautiful river. We will collect harmful litter before it washes into the stream and remove invasive plants to make room for native plants.
This project is supported by the Troutdale Community Enhancement Grant. The Way Out Inn Pizzeria will provide a FREE Pizza Lunch after the event, so plan on sticking around, bring a lawn chair, and some drinks!
This event marks the kick-off of the summer "Stash the Trash" season. Look for yellow mesh bags at parks along the lower Sandy throughout the summer months to encourage visitors to grab and stash trash as they go. Thank you for your interest in supporting a cleaner Sandy River!
When: Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Meeting Location: Participants will meet in the parking lot of the Lewis & Clark State Recreation Area, located at 1 Jordan Rd, Troutdale, OR. MAP LINK.
Advanced Registration Required: Pre-registration is required! Please sign up (Green Button Below) ahead of time so we know how many volunteers to expect and to fill out the volunteer waiver form.
What to Bring: Please come wearing a face covering. Wear close-toed shoes, long pants, bring a water bottle, snacks, a backpack and dress for the weather. All cleanup supplies will be provided. Feel free to bring the following items to help us reduce the number of supplies we distribute: reusable trash bag, garden or work gloves, litter grabber, shovel, loppers.
What's Provided: SOLVE will provide rubber palmed work gloves, heavy-duty garbage bags, litter grabbers, shovels, and loppers to all participants.
Physical Ability: This event is not ADA accessible. The check-in station and work areas will be off pavement and off-trail or on unimproved dirt paths, and sometimes on a slope. Participants should be confident they have good balance and can walk off-trail and or on slopes without undue risk of injury. If a participant would like to collect litter on the sidewalks that follow the roadways instead of working off-trail, that is an option, but they would be working independently and away from the group.
Children/ Event Size: Children are welcome and encouraged to attend. Children must be accompanied by an attentive adult. If you sign up and are put on the waiting list, SOLVE will notify you if a spot opens up.
Parking: Normally this is a pay to park site. However, on this date all state parks are free, so there will be free parking.
Bathrooms: There are public restrooms available. We can't say what condition they will be in on the day of the event.
