Downtown Cleanup - Tom McCall Waterfront Park
Portland is a strong, resilient city, but it needs help. Join SOLVE for a day of downtown litter cleanups to beautify our city, keep our waterways clean, and protect local wildlife from the harmful effects of trash. Enjoy the sights of downtown Portland and know that the work you are engaging in has many benefits for our community, our local businesses, and our environment! Please note that this event is a litter cleanup and will not include graffiti removal.
This event was made possible through support from Spin. SOLVE also would like to give thanks to our partners at the Portland Business Alliance and the Portland Lodging Alliance.
When: Wednesday, May 19, 2021
Staggered Check-In: Event check-in will run from 8:45 AM to 9:30 AM. Arrive any time during this window. This will allow for a smaller crowd than checking in all at once. The event will run through 11:30 AM.
Advanced Registration Required: Pre-registration is required! Please sign up (green button below) ahead of time so you can sign our electronic waiver to help avoid crowding during check-in.
Meeting Location: Volunteers will be meeting at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, underneath the Hawthorne bridge. MAP.
NOTE: There is construction around this site and some sidewalks are fenced off. The easiest way to find the check-in is to walk into Waterfront Park at Salmon Street Springs, where Salmon St meets Naito Parkway. Then walk two blocks south to the check-in, located under the Hawthorne Bridge.
What's Provided: Heavy-duty garbage bags, litter grabbers, safety vests, and rubber palm work gloves are provided for all participants.
What to Bring: Please come wearing a face covering, closed-toed shoes, a backpack, and a filled reusable water bottle. Observe social distancing throughout the cleanup.
Parking: Paid parking available along nearby streets and parking garages.
Bathrooms: There are public restrooms available in the park during this event. We can't say what condition they will be in on the day of the cleanup.
Accessibility: The check-in location will be in an area that is wheelchair accessible. The majority of the cleanup area is on city sidewalks that are wheelchair accessible.
Youth Volunteers: Youth are welcome if accompanied by an attentive adult. Youth volunteers ages 14-17 can come without their guardian if their guardian prints and signs a youth waiver form and the youth volunteer brings it with them. Find the link to the youth waiver form here. Youth Waiver Form
