King Neighborhood Association NE Portland Litter Pick-up
In honor of Earth Day, the King Neighborhood Association is hosting a litter pick-up event at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School (on the corner of NE 7th Ave and NE Wygant). You can pick any location you'd like, although we'll have a list of "priority areas", and spend as much or as little time as you'd like collecting litter. When you are finished, drop off your bagged litter at the same location and we will dispose of it for you.
This event is open to volunteers of all ages. Families with small children are welcomed to attend and can focus on picking up litter in the park. Picking up litter beautifies our public spaces. Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary. Many hands make light work! Remember to wear a mask!
When: Saturday April 24th, 10:00am - 12:30pm
Staggered Check In: To avoid a crowd at check in, arrive anytime between 10:00 - 10:30am for check in. Event will run until 1:00 pm.
Where: We will meet at the parking lot of King Elementary at NE 7th Ave and NE Wygant | MAP LINK.
Getting There/ Parking: Walking/biking/taking Trimet to the event is encouraged. Free parking is available in that parking lot and on the street, in front of the school.
What's Provided: Heavy-duty garbage bags, litter grabbers, and vinyl gloves are provided to all participants that need them.
What to Bring: Please come wearing a mask, long pants, and closed-toed shoes. If you have your own gloves, litter grabber, litter bag or bucket, you are encouraged to bring those as well. Please also dress for the weather. This event will go on rain or shine.
Advanced Registration: Pre-registration is required! Please sign up (Green Button Below) ahead of time so we know how many volunteers to expect, and to fill out the volunteer waiver form.
COVID Safety: ALl volunteers are instructed to wear a face covering and to observe social distancing throughout the cleanup. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an attentive adult.
Restrooms: There is no public restroom available at this location, so please plan accordingly. There is a nearby Market and shops on Alberta that may have restrooms.
Youth Volunteers: Children are welcome if accompanied by an attentive adult. Youth volunteers ages 13-17 can also create their own SOLVE account online. A youth volunteer can attend without their guardian if they print out and bring a signed youth waiver form. Find the link to the youth waiver form here.
