Detrash Portland - Southeast Trash Pick up event starting at Whitman Elementary
Detrash Portland and SOLVE are teaming up for another amazing trash pick up event! The Brentwood-Darlington by Whitman Elementary School is near SE 82nd street, Cartlandia, and the Springwater Corridor bike path. A lot of trash builds in this area and it could really use our help. We are once again asking our amazing volunteer network to join us in helping make Portland a little cleaner.
Date: Saturday, January 16th
Time: 10am to 12:30pm
Place: Whitman Elementary School
7326 SE Flavel St, Portland, OR 97206
We will be meeting in front of Whitman Elementary School under the covered overhang by the flag pole.
Advanced Registration: Pre-registration is required! Please sign up (Green Button Below) ahead of time so we know how many volunteers to expect and to fill out the volunteer waiver form. You can show up a little before or after 10 am for a staggered check-in as well if you would like to avoid the initial sign-in rush.
What is provided: Detrash Portland will provide all volunteers with gloves, trash grabbers, bags, and high-vis vests.
What to bring: We recommend that all participants come dressed for the weather. Bring a jacket and wear closed-toed shoes.
Is this event safe?: Yes! We take COVID very seriously. We also strictly adhere to all recommended safety standards.
All volunteers MUST WEAR A MASK! We will be observing social distancing throughout this event so please keep that in mind and maintain a 6 feet distance between yourself and other volunteers.
That being said, we still feel that picking up trash is one of the safest activities that we can participate in during this pandemic. All events are 100% outdoors and all volunteers are instructed to follow the guidelines stated above.
Parking: Street parking is available here and the parking lot may also be open.
Accessibility: The check-in location will be located in an area that is wheelchair accessible. The majority of the work area for the cleanup will be on city streets and sidewalks that are wheelchair accessible.
Bathrooms: There is no bathroom available at the school but there are 2 markets just down the street at the intersection of SE Flavel and 72nd with bathrooms available to the public.
This event is family-friendly. Children under 14 are welcome if accompanied by an attentive adult. It is also dog friendly.
If you have any questions feel free to message me or email Peter Brewer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hope to see you there! Look for the signs and volunteers wearing high-vis vests.
