Swan Island Boat Ramp Clean Up!
Join SOLVE staff for a cleanup event on a little known boat ramp on the Willamette River. Hidden in a quiet corner of Swan Island, the Swan Island Boat Ramp offers public access to the water, and a small stretch of beach on a sheltered cove. Help clean the beach of harmful plastic litter before the wind and rain carry it out to sea. Animals often confuse these items with food, resulting in malnutrition, entanglement, or strangulation.
When: Saturday October 12th, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
What: Walk the boat ramp and beach with a litter grabber, bagging up trash and carrying it up to the parking lot to be disposed of properly.
Note: The group will be walking on sandy beaches, and up and down a slope. There may be people living outside in this area. We will maintain a respectful distance from any active camps we encounter.
What's Provided: SOLVE staff will be there to guide volunteers for the entire project. Litter cleanup supplies will be provided.
What to Bring: Wear sturdy closed toed shoes, dress for the weather, bring a snack, a back pack, and filled reusable water bottle.
Parking: Parking is free in the parking lot at the boat ramp. Look for SOLVE signs, and staff, in the parking lot boat ramp.
Directions: Search "Swan Island Boat Ramp, North Basin Avenue, Portland OR" in Google Maps. The boat ramp is located off North Basin Avenue just to the south east of Northwest Paper Box Manufacturers at 5617 N Basin Ave, Portland, OR.
