Cleanup at Bowman Park - Periwinkle Creek
The South Albany High School Youth Watershed Council has been working to restore the riparian (stream-side) area of Periwinkle Creek for several years. Join us as we conduct our annual fall cleanup/ invasive species removal to remove trash, Himalayan blackberry, ivy, and bindweed from the park and creek. Periwinkle Creek is a salmon bearing stream, and its convergence with the Willamette at Bowman park is an essential habitat for juvenile salmon. By removing trash and invasive species at the site, we will be protecting the existing vegetation as well as young trees and shrubs. Enhancing the banks of Periwinkle Creek provides shade and bank stabalization, enhancing the habitat quality of the creek. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get wet and/or dirty. We will provide tools and gloves (or bring your own!). Refreshments and snacks will be provided.
