Let's Pull Together - Peavy Arboretum
The trails around Peavy Arboretum are in definite need of some help to restore the balance between the native flora and invasive plants.
The classic Good vs Evil, English Ivy was once loved for gracing "hallowed halls" back in its day, but English ivy has become a major invasive villain here in the Pacific Northwest, along its the sweet and thorny counterpart the Himalian Blackberry. These two invasive plants are trying to take over control of the Pacific Northwest, from British Columbia to California. Given a foothold, these two species will suppresses and exclude all other vegetation to form a dense green desert of ivy and thorns. We will loose our natural areas and all the things that make them so so special to us as forest users.
Please come out, and be a super-hero, by helping us restore the natural balance.
Poison oak may be present. Bring protective gloves or use those provided. Wear long sleeves, long pants and closed-toe sturdy shoes.
Recommended for ages 6+. All volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
