Roads End July 5th Beach Clean-up
The Roads End Improvement Association (REIA) is again sponsoring its annual July 5th Roads End beach clean-up on the morning of July 5th from 9 am- 1 pm. This will be the fourth year for our event. Roads End is a very popular tourist destination on the 4th of July. In previous clean-ups we have picked up not only fireworks debris, but also broken bottles and other glass in the sand from bottle rockets, found large campfires with plastic bottles and cans, cigarette butts and lots of other trash. If left on the beach, these present a public safety hazard for children, adults and pets, as well an environmental crisis for wildlife and for the ocean.
In 2016 we organized the first beach clean-up and attracted 65 volunteers who collected 68 bags of debris totaling 460 pounds of trash. In 2017, we recruited 75 volunteers and collected just as much trash. In 2018, we had 64 volunteers who collected a staggering 854 pounds of beach debris! Working in conjunction with Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, we managed to bag all of the debris and have it hauled away by the Park Rangers.
We intend to replicate our project again this year and encourage residents and tourists alike to join us for this fun event!
