Trillium Creek Primary School - Invasive Blackberry Removal & Mulching
Join us as we get our campus ready for spring and begin restoration of the forest wetland area! We will be weeding and mulching the landscape beds around the perimeter of the school and removing invasive blackberries.
The Garden Literacy Team has exciting plans to expand the trail in forest area, creating a system of boardwalks that will allow students to access Trillium Creek and learn about our school’s unique wetland ecosystem. By removing blackberries, we will protect existing native plants, clear the way for the first sections of boardwalk, and provide space for planting new trees. Mulching the landscape beds will help prevent weed growth and reduce the need for herbicides, especially in areas that are close to the building and playground.
You are welcome to stop by any time from 9am-1pm and work as little or as much as you would like. We will have a sign-in table near the playground.
Our new Garden Educator, Bob Carlson, will be giving tours of the natural area at 9:00am, 11:00am, and 12:30pm. He will talk about plans for the trail and point out native plants and any signs of wildlife in the area.
The WLWV Adult Transitions program will be providing us with delicious homemade snacks.
Please come in boots, long pants, and long sleeve shirts/jackets that you don’t mind getting dirty. Children are welcome to tour the natural area and help work, but please plan to stay and supervise them.
Hope to see you there!
