Invasive Plant Removal, Site Maintenance

Age Minimum (with Adult): 1+, Minimum Age:18+

Earth Day at Nehalem Bay State Park

Help celebrate Earth Day by giving back and volunteering at Nehalem Bay State Park. We will be working hard to remove Scotch Broom around our day use area. Scotch Broom was once intentionally planted at the park, it was used in the early 1900s to help with dune stabilization, but over time it has run rampant and is now considered an invasive species and a noxious weed.  It is a very resilient and opportunistic plant that can produce more then 20,00 seeds each year and each seed can survive around 30 years before even sprouting! When it become abundant it can drowned other native understory plants and even choke out trees! Due to all of this, we are trying to rid the park of as much Scotch Broom possible. It will be an ongoing battle but with your help we can make it happen! Join us April 20th at Nehalem Bay State Park’s Day Use Parking Lot, check in will be at 8am. If you have them, please bring gloves and your own pruning sheers to use, we will have a limited number to loan out for the event. Additionally, please dress for the weather and the work along with bringing your own water and snack. The event is scheduled to wrap up at 12pm.

Hope to see you here!!
