Volunteer at the Alberta Street Earth Day Clean Up

The Alberta Street Earth Day Clean Up is more than just a day of litter and graffiti removal; it is a day to meet your neighbors, build community and celebrate at the Golden Garbage Awards. The ninth annual Earth Day Clean Up, presented by Pacific Power, is Saturday, April 20, 2019.

About the Clean Up

Check-in.
Volunteer check-in starts at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2019 in the courtyard between Umpqua Bank and Barista at NE 18th Avenue & Alberta Street. (directions) Coffee and light nourishment will be provided. The clean up starts at 10:30AM and will take place rain or shine!

What to bring.
If possible, please bring your own gloves, water bottle and any tools that will aid in clean up! Some helpful tools include step ladders, flat head screwdrivers, pliers, razor blade scrapers – anything you think will help. Anything you can bring with you would be greatly appreciated.  Have a green thumb? Bring your garden tools to weed and clean up our tree wells and other green spaces.

What to wear.
The Clean Up will take place rain or shine. Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.

What you will be doing and where.
You will be assigned to a 5-6 block section of Alberta Street between MLK and NE 33rd Avenue when you check-in in the morning. You may be picking up trash (except prohibited materials*), removing stickers and graffiti, removing posters from telephone poles, weeding/mulching at bus stops, etc. Feel free to let our check-in volunteers know if you have a location preference and they will do their best to accommodate. Larger groups may be asked to split up to make sure the whole street gets the attention it needs. After you check in and grab some nourishment, you will head to your assigned location to meet up with your Team Leader.

Stay for the celebration.
After the clean up, join us back at 18th & Alberta for pizza, Salt & Straw Ice Cream, treats from Random Order, the Golden Garbage Awards and raffle prizes from your favorite Alberta Street businesses. The celebration will end around 1:30PM.

*Prohibited materials, not covered by Metro’s disposal voucher program, include: hazardous waste materials; all construction, remodeling or demolition materials; all kitchen garbage; residential yard debris and trimmings; and waste and recyclables collected curbside.
