Port to Port Cleanup of the Yaquina River
The U-DA-MAN Fishing Tournament will be conducting their third annual Port to Port Yaquina River Clean Up on Saturday, April 20, 2019 in conjunction with Earth Day 2019. We will once again be operating both boat and land based crews between the Port of Newport and the Port of Toledo. The purpose of this event is to clean up debris and garbage that is not accessible from the roadway and and can only be accessed from the water. We transport many of our volunteers by boat to locations on the River banks that are inaccessible from the road. We are the only group at this time that does river cleanup on the Yaquina River from boats. As in past years, this project is sponsored by the Ports of Toledo and Newport, Oregon SOLVE, Englund Marine Supply, Dahl Disposal and Thompson Disposal. We are again anticipating participation by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrolas well. We have a safety plan in place and make sure all boats have the required equipment on board prior to launching. All volunteers working from both the boats and the docks at the ramp will be required to wear a PFD. Each boat will have a working VHF radio on board. Last year we had a total of 35 volunteers working from six boats and on foot to reach areas along an approximate 12 mile stretch of river. An estimated 5,000 lbs. of trash was collected in a six hour period.
