Trail Blazers & Country Financial Restoration Day

Kelley Point Park needs you!
The final event of the COUNTRY Financial Live, Learn and Play series has been set! COUNTRY’s team of Volunteers will expand their community impact with the help of Trail Blazers newcomer, Rodney Hood. Rodney and COUNTRY will spend the afternoon day at one of Portland’s go-to outdoor parks, Kelley Point Park. Join us in restoring this beloved park and animal habitat, while making a big difference in the Portland community.

March 22nd, 2019, 3 PM - 5 PM
Volunteers can choose between litter pickup or invasive species removal.

  • Litter pickup will involve walking on the sandy beach along the Columbia and Willamette Rivers and through the grassy park and on paved trails.
  • Invasives species removal will be teams using loppers and shovels to cut back invasive Armenian blackberry and dig out blackberry roots.

All groups will be led by SOLVE and Portland Parks and Recreation staff. All tools and instruction will be provided.
Kelley Point Park is where the Willamette River and Columbia Slough meet the Columbia River. This important piece of land supports many black cottonwood trees, snowberry, and willow. Invasive plants like blackberry out-compete our native plants, and do not prevent erosion or create diverse habitat. Native plants like willows prevent erosion, create habitat, and help filter runoff from North Portland that would otherwise flow into the river. Your work will help create a more healthy ecosystem, home to many native plants and animals that contribute to the health of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers.
Remember to dress for the weather in layers and wear long sleeves and pants to protect against plants. Please wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes. Help this event be more sustainable by bringing your own refillable water bottle and consider taking public transit or carpooling to this event.
