Join a service event to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Events are happening all weekend.
Beginning in 1986, Martin Luther King Day — the first federal holiday honoring an African American — would be observed on the third Monday in January.
This Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 17, 2022, marks the 27th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy since President Clinton's designation in 1994. Observed as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
