Day 28:
There are many ways to improve the health of our water cycle, even from indoors. Many people don’t know that “flushable” wipes are typically not flushable and can lead to microplastics leeching into the water. They also can wreak havoc on a city’s sewer system or your own septic tank. Other items that you should avoid putting down the drain? Fats, oils, grease, bleach, herbicides, and pesticides. Learn more from our partners at Clackamas County’s Water Environment Services website.
Other sources of microplastics entering our water supply come from our washing machines when plastic fibers from our clothes become dislodged from the fabric and get washed down the drain. You can use a microplastic filter, Guppy Friend, or Cora Ball to prevent this from happening.
